We had a little snowfall yesterday. I spent most of the afternoon snapping pictures.
This pair of Cardinals made me laugh. I can almost hear them say, “Excuse me, your camera snapping is interrupting our dinner.”
Until next time…peace

A snowstorm is ushering in December. Personally, I find the snow beautiful. The roads are not as beautiful right now. We actually had freezing rain first. But, I am fortunate enough to be able to stay home today.

“Snow was falling,
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness.”
― Mary Oliver
We don’t have much snow in mid-Michigan right now. I was really hoping for a white Christmas. I am sure the snow will arrive soon enough.
For those who are celebrating today….Merry Christmas!

Waiting patiently for Spring, Michigan was hit was some wintry weather last weekend. Knocking out my power for a couple of days, the ice storm was not a welcome visitor. My main concerns were my pump and freezers (I have 3). Other than that, I actually don’t mind the quietness of being unplugged for a couple of days.
I admit I prefer snow over ice any day. The ice just is not safe especially for me. Yes, I fell. I am fine, just bruised.
During the wintry mix, filling the bird feeders was one of my priorities.
Several kinds of birds frequented my feeders. Since I had no power anyway, I took a lot of pictures. The little Goldfinch was one my favorites. He (I think) just did not seem happy with the surrounding conditions.
On a positive note, the sun is shining brightly today. Maybe Spring will actually show up.
Until next time…peace
After the snowy weekend, I was happy to see the snow plow finally come down my road today. I could complain and whine over the snowfall. But, I can’t help myself, I find the snow beautiful. Of course, I was right out in the middle of it. Watching the snowfall is peaceful.
Photographing the birds was a big part of my weekend fun. At one time, I had over 30 Mourning Doves at my feeders. One of my grandpa’s favorites, the doves are always fun to watch.
The Tufted Titmouses often provide comical relief. I didn’t even notice the second one, until after I uploaded the photos to my computer.
Litte Nuthatch was eyeing me as I put the food in the feeders.
If the feeders were empty or low, the Chickadees expressed their opinions. For a small bird, they are noisy.
I also had Cardinals, Bluejays, Sparrows, Crackles, and more. So if you ever get a chance to play in the snow, take time to watch the birds.

Everyone has been complaining about the cold here in Michigan. But honestly, it is Michigan. I admit there were a couple of days that had me hibernating indoors. A cozy fire, a warm blanket, and a good book made the days go by quickly. Other days, I would just watch the snow fall as I stood in the middle of my yard.

Michigan’s weather temperatures are slowly decreasing. Winter is here. Most people should understand the colder weather is a normal part of living in Michigan in December. I personally do not mind the colder weather. But the high winds make going outside difficult. Feeding the little Sparrows and other winter birds is a cold process. However, if I do not feed them daily, the birds sit on my porch. So every time, I walk by my sliding glass window, I see them peering in at me. Yes, I am convinced this is a guilt trip tactic.
Tonight, you can tell snow is on the way. There’s a heaviness in the air. According to the weatherman, the next couple of days should only bring about three inches of snow. So, if you are out and about in Mid-Michigan, drive safely.

For those who are celebrating today, Happy Halloween!
In Michigan, I was able to see the first hints of winter as snowflakes began to form.
For everyone who is out and about tonight, be safe and have fun.

“I believe in the process.
I believe in four seasons.
I believe that winter’s tough, but spring’s coming.
I believe that there’s a growing season.
And I think that you realize that in life, you grow.
You get better.”
Steve Southerland
The calendar may have officially ushered in the spring season. But, winter is still having the last word.
Social media is full of complaints of the day snowfall. Even though, I would love to see warm sunny days. I realize this is Michigan. This is normal. We always seem to have a “spring snow” around this time of year. I know everyone is impatient. Mother Nature seems to have her own time table.
Forgetting Mother Nature is in charge is always a mistake.
