Remembering 9/11

Do you remember 9/11/01? What were you doing? I was working at a grocery store at the time. One of the customers mentioned the first attack. Then, we heard the news of a second….and the devastating events that continued. I had a small television brought over to the store. All of the employees would take turns going back to the little room to watch the news.

My college class was canceled that night. Our professor emailed us to stay home. Even in rural Michigan, we all felt the attacks that day.

May those who died that fateful day rest in peace.

Happy World Photography Day

How long have you been taking pictures? When I was 12, my grandfather gave me an old 126 film camera.

I thought I had the world. Compared to today’s cameras, the 126 is a dinosaur. But I still remember the feeling of setting up displays or photographing nature. Over the years, my photo skills have drastically improved. Bu my love for nature is still as strong as ever.

I wish he could see how my photography has changed over the years.

And, how a simple camera was the start of a lifetime adventure in photography.

Side View of the Hospital

In the photos I am currently digitalizing, I notice nurses in full uniform and military personnel. A few photos show a military base in a remote area (I will post those later, they need some extra work). Do I know this hospital photo is near the base…no? I am just guessing based on the other photos. A couple of the other photos were taken in California. But I cannot verify if this hospital was near there or not.  In my opinion, the hospital is a grand structure.

The photo was labeled “side view of the hospital”.  I am assuming the nurses were caring for patients and living on site. The photo dates for the rest of the pictures were 1942. But, there was not a date on this particular photo.

If anyone knows, where this hospital was or even if it still exists, I would love some information.

Doodlebug

The vehicle in the photograph reminds me of something my father would make. He loves converting old cars into a tractor-like vehicle or a doodlebug.

Do I know the photograph is a doodlebug? No, I, unfortunately, I do not have enough information about the photo to accurately describe the vehicle. I wish I did.

The other photos/negatives from this particular estate sale range from 1940 to 1950. I am assuming the date of the photograph falls within this decade.

I cleaned up the negative to the best of my abilities. If anyone has any further information or thoughts on the photograph, I would love to hear them.

Until next time….peace

Here Comes the Train

I admit, my knowledge of trains is minimal. I cleaned up this old negative to the best of my abilities. The negative was covered with a substance. I am assuming something was spilled on it at one time.

When I see old trains, I immediately think about train robbers, heists, and heading out to the West coast for a new life. I am pretty sure this train is from the 1940’s or 1950’s. The rest of the negatives and photos from this estate had those dates.

If anyone has any knowledge of trains, I would love to learn more.

From Inside the Tunnel

I have slowly been working through my recent stack of old photos and negatives.

The back of the photo reads, “from inside the tunnel”. I wish I knew the location of the tunnel.

Any ideas?

Lamert Field Air Races

The original photo is the view from the distance. I cleaned it up. I also tried a crop version of the photo.

The back of the original small print reads Lamert Field Air Races. When I researched the name, my results were all Lambert field. I do not know if the spelling was wrong on the back of the photo. Or perhaps, the Lamert Field simply does not exist anymore. I do not have enough information. So if anyone knows the history of Lamert or Lambert, please share.

Until next time…peace
