Lamert Field Air Races

The original photo is the view from the distance. I cleaned it up. I also tried a crop version of the photo.

The back of the original small print reads Lamert Field Air Races. When I researched the name, my results were all Lambert field. I do not know if the spelling was wrong on the back of the photo. Or perhaps, the Lamert Field simply does not exist anymore. I do not have enough information. So if anyone knows the history of Lamert or Lambert, please share.

Music Observatory – Pasadena College

The image is from my latest finds. I cannot tell you if the picture is labeled music observatory or conservatory. I am assuming the writing reads music conservatory, Pasenda College. But I am not 100%.

The date is hard to read too. The original owner of the photograph wrote in pencil. So, the date either reads 1940 or 1946. Even though I did look up the information, I cannot find an exact match to the photo. If anyone knows, the history behind the photograph, please contact me. I am curious as usual.

Until next time…peace.

A 1952 Wedding at a Napa Church-Part 2

After searching through my latest purchase, I was disappointed not to find a photo or negative of the bride and groom. There are other photos is the group that may be part of the wedding party. But they do not have labels. I can only guess.

I did come across one more photo from the Napa Church. The photo is labeled Rev. and Mrs. Johnson-1952.

Vintage Photo: Essex Farmer’s Club

I have been working a series of photos that include images from a parade. In this photo, the float is for the Essex Farmer’s Club. I did a quick search but I did not yield any quality results on the club. I know the photo was taken in St. Johns, Michigan. I do not have a year. I am hoping to find out more information as I continue to research.

Vintage Photo: Public Gathering-Religious

I came across this photo in a box of negatives from an estate sale. The negatives range from family gatherings to large public events. The owners obviously did a lot of traveling. The photos have a full range of tour destinations.

This photo fascinates me (well all photos fascinate me) but this one looks like it’s a large crowd gathering to see the Pope or someone else high up in the Catholic Church. When I enlarge it you really can see all the details.

When I enlarge it you really can see all the details. I’ll keep researching to see if I can find further information.

Vintage Photo: Flying Machine

Working on a series of black and white negatives, I came across this photo. My curiosity immediately went into overdrive. I would love to know the history surrounding this moment. I am assuming these gentlemen are working on a flying machine. Obviously, I do not know the exact details.

In my opinion, the three men standing in front of a balloon are the ones who work on the flying machine. Now, the three men standing toward the right of the photo reminds me of investors into the project.  What do you think? Does anyone have any input into the photo?

Vintage Photo: Checking Time

“A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.”
― Charles Darwin
The Life & Letters of Charles Darwin

I love working with old photos. I am always picking up negatives or slides from estate sales, eBay or local garage sales. Knowing my passion, friends and family members bring me boxes of old photos. Turning an unknown photo into a digital print is my own personal way to time travel. I get a small glimpse into the everyday lives of the average person.
Titling this photo, “Checking Time” I wish I knew their story. I would like to think one of these gentlemen are about to get married. The other three are showing him the time until he is considered a married man. I obviously have no idea about the photo. I wish I did. The negative from the print was in the same batch as some wedding photos.

Who knows? Maybe someday, a person out there in cyber-land will identify one photo.

A Box of Old Photos

My parents love to stop at antique stores and little thrift shops. Recently, they came across a box of old photos and postcards. They absolutely made my day by giving me this box. I felt like it was Christmas. I am slowly sorting through the material. I thought I would share one of the photos with you.

Written in pencil on the back:

Kate Sheffield

3 Nov 1911

The photo does show signs of age. The man in the photo is unidentified which of course makes me want to know who he is even more…

March is Women’s History Month

The month of March is dedicated to women in history. I am thankful for all the women who have come before me to provide the rights that I have today. From Amelia Earhart to the women of the suffrage movement, I could go into great detail about the women I admire. But I like to share photos of women, I have come across through a variety of sources. Some of the women are related to me, others I have just found while sifting through stacks of old negatives. These are just everyday women who I believe deserve recognition. I wish I knew more of their stories.

These are just everyday women—–mothers, daughters, sisters and friends who I believe deserve recognition. For the ones I never met, I wish I knew more of their stories.
