Ambassador Bridge 1957

This is a digitalized photo from a slide. The markers on the slide indicate the photo of the Ambassador Bridge over the Detroit River was taken on 7-26-1957.

From my understanding, the Revere site is in ruins and part of the property recently collapsed into the river.

Does anyone have any information on the site? Or the area? I would love to learn the history.

Pheasant Hunting 1942

The photo does not have any identifying marks of the people. But there is a stamp on the back from the processing service, Brown Photo Service, Minneapolis, Minn. Then, under the stamp is the date, November 19, 1942.

Yes, the photo could be straightened. But I did not want to lose the car in the background. Does anyone know the type of car? I am horrible with old car names.

The photo reminded me of my grandfather who hunted a lot. He always seemed to have a cigarette in his mouth too.

I wish I knew about the couple.

In Front of the House

Unfortunately, this photo did not have any information or markings on the back. I purchased it as a lot off from eBay.

From the type of photo and the style of dress I am guessing the photo is from the late 1940s.

I am assuming this is a family gathering. There is an older couple in the photo. I am guessing the rest are children and grandchildren.

I can guess this is around Easter. If you look closely at the tricycle. There is a pail hooked to the handlebars. I can almost make out a duck or a goose on the pail.

What do you see when you look at this photo?

Until next time…peace

Folk’s Anniversary

Unfortunately, this photo did not have a date. From the style of dress, hair cuts, and type of photo, I am guessing around the late 1950s. On the back, there is some information. In very nice penmanship, someone wrote, “Folk’s Anniversary at the Lake”.

The photo is also stamped with , “Brown Photo Co.. Minneapolis, Minn.”

With all the photos, I purchase or have given to me. I wish I had more information.

What do you see?

Until next time…peace

December 14, 1957

This photo is from a batch I purchased off from eBay. I do not have any information on the photo. But on the back, there is a date Dec. 14, 1957 and the words, “90 years old”.

I would love to know their history. I am assuming the men in the photo are her son and grandson. But, like always, that is just my guess.

What do you think?

Until next time…peace

Vintage Photo: Detroit 1957

This image is a digitalized copy of an old slide. The original photographer left some data on the back.

Written in pencil:

  • Two freighters heading into Lake St. Clair
  • SK (I am not sure what these markings mean. I am assuming it was a way for the photographer to determine the batch of photos.)
  • Detroit
  • 7-27-1957

Of course, I would love more information on this photo. Are the children with the photographer? Were they just spending a day on the shore? Where was the freighters heading? Was this a normal day for the ships?

I am never satisfied. I want to know the whole story.

Tell me, what do you think?

DeBar Hardware Store-1915

I purchased this photo from eBay. I did clean up the image.

Fortunately, the photo does have information on the back.

-1915

-W. DeBar Hardware Store

-Ashley, Michigan

If you look closely at the photo, you can definitely view different items from the time period.

-There are wash bins out front.

-A sign advertising Winchester is in the window on the left.

-Another sign is advertising fertilizer.

-There are oil lanterns for sale in the window.

-The horse is tied to one of the rails out front.

-There are advertising signs on the pole. I know one reads, “paints”. But I cannot decipher any other information.

I love this photo. I assuming the two men out front of the shop are the owners. Perhaps, the young man is a son. If anyone can tell me who they are, I would love the information.

What do you see when you look at the photo?

Barney’s Retirement

I recently purchased various slides and negatives from eBay. “Barney’s Retirement” is one of those photos I digitalized from a slide. I like this particular set of slides. The original owner wrote information on each one.

The photo shows the last trip of the horse drawn milk wagon in East Lansing.

The photo is dated 5-25-1957.

The sign draped over the horse tells the best story, “So sorry, I am retiring to the farm. Barney”. I hope Barney was able to live a long happy life at the farm.

The lady in the photo is identified as Mrs. Strother. The children are Karen and Karl Kaufman.

The milk wagon displays writing on the side. I can read the word “farms”. But the rest of the information is blurred.

If anyone knows the story of the horse drawn milk wagon, I would love to hear the tale.

Until next time…peace

Couple-1915

I wonder if this image was taken at their wedding? The dress may be white. If not the dress is definitely made from a lighter color material.

Ok, if not a wedding, maybe a Sunday gathering, church, or social event? The lady in the photo is wearing a fancy hat. What do you think?

I am fortunate with this photo. The original print has names and the year scrawled across the back.

Date: 1915

Names: Carl Schmidt and Mayme Cronin

Maybe somewhere out there in cyberspace, someone knows this couple’s history. I would love to hear from you if you do. Did they get married? Was this a wedding?

First Congregational Church, St. Johns, MI

One of the photos I recently purchased off eBay was an image of the First Congregational Church in St. Johns, Michigan. I don’t have a date for the picture. If someone can tell me the year of the car in the image, I can have a better guess when the photo was taken.

I love old original buildings that are still in use today.
