Working the Field

As a farmer’s daughter, I cannot imagine working the fields with horses and hand tools. But I know that was the reality of farm work before tractors and other equipment were invented.

The photo shows two men clearing weeds or harvesting plants. I am not sure what they are holding. There is another gentleman in the background. He seems to be leading the team of horses.

I do not have any data on the photo.

An Airplane Project

The image was part of an estate lot. Unfortunately, the auction seller did not have any information on the photos.

In the photo, this young man is extremely proud of his plane. I am guessing, he built the plane as part of a project, maybe for Scouts. I am putting this photo around the late 40s or early 50s.

Three Women–July 1940

The photo of three women has information on the back. I love when I find photos with a little information. First the photo has a date: July 1940.

Next, the image has names: Hilda Shoberg, Rosilia Shoberg, and Ellen Shoberg Dablin. Then at the bottom of the photo reads: Rosilia & Ellen first cousins.

I wonder if the ladies were just visiting. Or if they were attending a wedding or family reunion.

Benjestown Road-1945

This photo was part of an estate sale purchase. My favorite part of the photo is the information on the back. The photo had a location, Benjestown Road, Tennessee, and a date, 1945. I generally do not get any information on the back of a photo.

From the girl’s clothing, I am guessing, this is her first time on a horse.

Man in the Doorway

Over the years, I have worked on many photos, negatives, and films. Some photos I just can’t help but wonder about the back story. Who was this person? Where was this photo taken?

The Man in the Doorway is one of those photos. I am assuming, the photo was taken on a military base. He appears in other photos that would corroborate this guess. But unfortunately, that is all the information I have.

A School Project

These photos are from an estate lot. I do not know if this was a school project or part of the curriculum. The farm display is definitely a teaching point. There are posters on the black board to go along with the exhibit.

I am assuming the photo is from the early 1950s. However I do not have any information to confirm the date or the location of the photo.

Christmas in New York

Happy Friday, everyone! Here are a few photos from a recent estate lot purchase. I do not have any names or dates with these photographs.

I personally find these pictures amusing. The photographs are definitely taken in New York City at Rockefeller Center.

I just returned from a New York trip. I was one of those crazy people who stood out in the rain to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. I recognize every place these photos were taken.

The gorgeous Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. I wonder what color those bulbs were?

The Rink at Rockefeller Center. It always looks bigger in the photos. But I still enjoyed watching the people when I was there.

The beautiful St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

I am guessing these photos are from the late 1950s or early 60s. What do you think?

Have you been to NYC?

Vintage Christmas Photo: Day 8–A Couple Posing

I think I have more than one photo in front of this Christmas tree. I am going to assume everyone was at a family Christmas party.

Of course, I am only guessing. But, I remember as a little girl, my great-grandmother would host a Christmas party. At some point, everyone had to have a picture taken in front of the tree.

Merry Christmas!

Vintage Christmas Photo: Day 6–A Girl and her Two Babies

Like many of the other photos, I purchased from auctions or other sites, I do not have any concrete information about the little girl in the photo. I just guess.

But, I believe, there is something truly magical about showing off two brand-new baby dolls on Christmas morning! I would place this photo in the early 1950s range. I just love the little girl and her new toys.

I love the large caterpillar in the background on the table. I need to research it. I am very curious about the worm-like toy. Unless she had siblings, there were other toys. I spotted a baking/kitchen set on the floor. I think there is a stuffed dog down by her feet. But I guess the dog could be real. What do you think?

Vintage Christmas Photo-Day 5: A Lady and her Dog

Well, I assume the dog belongs to the lady. I really do not know. But, I like to think they were posing together on Christmas Day.

Based on the photo type and her clothing style, I am guessing this photo is from the early 1950s.

I believe, my grandfather had a desk like the one the Christmas tree is on. So, I am also using that as a basis for the date.

What do you see when you look at the photo?
