A Happy Group

Happy September 1st everyone! Where did our summer go?

I am still working on the slides I purchased from an auction. I really like this slide. Everyone seems to be happy. I wonder if they were traveling together. Or perhaps, one couple was traveling to meet up with the others. I just wish I had names for the people in the image.

Have a great month!

April 29,1941

This image actually has a little information on the back. Written in two different colored inks. First, in black ink, the date is April 29, 1941. Next in blue are the names Mom & Pop Schmidt.

There is also a Kodak Processing stamp on the back with the location of Kansas City, MO. I rarely get that much information on one small photo.

The couple are drinking a beer. I tried to enlarge the image to read the label. But I cannot quite tell what kind of beer they are consuming. I did notice there were flowers in the background. I wonder if they are toasting a happy occasion like an anniversary.

South Dakota 1950

I enlarged this photo to view the license plate on the back of the truck which reads South Dakota 50 or 1950. The image does not have any identifying marks.

The older boy is sitting on a new bike. I wonder if the bicycle was a gift for a birthday.

The image is typical life at this time. I see a small flower garden to the right. There are clothes hanging on the line to the back left of the photo.

The younger boy’s pants are clearly too large, indicating second-hand clothes or hand-me-downs from his older brother.

April 1961

The writing on the back of the photo is not about the couple but the photographer.

It reads: “Mr. Hogan took this – he is minus one eye and one arm – yet drove to New York and looks good.”

Now, I just need to know about the couple.

Mother’s Ivy Plant – 1952

On the back of this photo, a little information is written out in faded ink: “Mother’s Ivy Plant” and “1952”. When I first saw this image, I thought the title should be “Stay out of my kitchen”.

I love the old-style kitchen. The glass bottles bring back childhood memories. We had Neigh-Hi but I do not know if we ever had Hub City.

3 Brothers

I admit, I do not know if these children were actually brothers. But it reminds me of the photos my aunts would take on holidays. They would gather each group of siblings for photos.

Unfortunately, the image did not have any identifying marks. I am guessing, the photo was taken in the early 1950s.

I absolutely love the artwork in the background. The image is of a young girl holding puppies. I need to see if I can find a print.

July 1942

Yes, I am fully aware that the photo is blurry. But I love the fact that it is dated and the couple is named. Someone wrote on the back of the print, “July 1942,” with the names “Carl & Mayme Schmidt.” I may have her name spelled wrong; the writing is faded.

I cannot tell if the couple is in front of their home or maybe in front of a store. The gentleman could be holding his lunch or a recent purchase.

A Family in 1929

Another image that I cleaned up from an estate sale. I would love to know the stained glass window’s colors on the image’s right-hand side.

This photo does have a date, October 1929. The style of clothing matches the date too.

In my opinion, I think the photo is a couple and their child is holding grandma’s hand.

Boys Holding Hats

I really like this picture. I can hear their mother saying, “Take off those hats”. Of course, I am only guessing. Like many of my photos, I do not have any information.

The boys are dressed in their “Sunday best, ” making me think they are headed to church. Or maybe they are heading to a church social, wedding, or other formal event.

Lady in Front of the House

I am assuming the lady is posing in front of her house. Perhaps, the house was a new purchase. I can see other houses reflecting in her windows which leads to me to believe the house was in the suburbs. Another scenario, the house may be part of military housing. The photo was in an estate lot with other military photos.

I do have a little information on this image. The back of the photo is stamped with Brown Photo Service, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sept. 11, 1942.
