Morning Fog

We had a foggy start to our holiday weekend here in the mid-Michigan area today. The sun, shining through the morning fog, gave a yellowish tint to the landscape.

Personally, I found the effect beautiful. I cannot believe September is here already. The upcoming autumn season is my favorite time of the year.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend.

Until next time…peace

Sandhill Cranes in the Morning Fog/Smoke

At the end of June, the Canadian Wildfires pushed smoke downward through our area. One of the mornings had light fog as well. The result was an eerie effect on the mid-Michigan landscape. I took numerous photos, but I liked this one the best.

While the smoke/fog combination creates a thick layer, the Sandhill Cranes are grazing in a local field. I am both fascinated and heartbroken by the wildfire smoke reaching our area.

My curious side wants to know all about the effects of the Canadian wildfires on areas so far away. But the part of me that loves wildlife and nature weeps for the damage. Yet, I know Mother Earth will continue to heal and provide.

International Rock Day

Did you know today, July 13th is International Rock Day? I love searching for rocks! I am always picking up interesting or brightly colored rocks. In fact, if you were to look at my dashboard in my car, I have a line of small rocks or stones on the ledge. I really can’t resist, a pretty rock.

In Michigan, one of my favorite places to search for rocks is Whitefish Point. The miles shoreline of Lake Superior produces beautiful, polished-looking rocks. If you are ever up that way, stop and spend time searching for the perfect rock for your collection.

Happy International Rock Day!

Until next time…peace always

Photo of the Day: Train

I received this image in an auction win. Unfortunately I do not have any background information about the photo.

I am assuming the photo was taken around the late 1960s or early 70s.

In my opinion, the train looks like a road side attraction. If you look closely, you can see 3 children. One is just tall enough to see out the window. I actually noticed the waving hand before spotting the child.

What do you think?

Photo of the Day: July 1964

This photo was part of an estate sale that I purchased online. I do not have any information on the people in the photo.

I do have a date: July 1964

I am guessing the photo is part of a celebration. I believe the couple standing directly behind the cake is celebrating their 50th anniversary. I am basing my assumption on the golden candlesticks on both sides of the cake.

Photo of the Day: Waubay, South Dakota Basketball 1938

I won this photo in an online auction. I do not have any information about the team, school, or players. The photo did not seem to match any of the others in the lot.

The photo of the basketball team does have identifying marks.

The front reads, Basketball 1938 & Waubay, S.D. underneath. The lefthand corner indicates the photo was taken by O’Neil Photo Company.

I believe this is a high school team. But I could be wrong.

Photo of the Day: Love, Arnette

The photo shows two young women in a wooded area. I don’t know if they are sisters or best friends. But the two seem to be enjoying themselves.

The photo was taken out of a scrapbook. The back of the image has residue and black paper stuck on it. I do not view any type of date. The photo does have writing on the front and back.

On the front, in the right button corner, the words, “Love, Arnette” are clearly visible.

On the back, the handwritten words read, “This was taken is some big woods. That are near here. It isn’t so plain but I’ll do till I get another. As ever, Arnette.”

From the style of the coats, I am guessing the photo was taken in the late 1940s. But I am not 100% positive.

What do you think, when you see this photo?

Let me know.

Until next time…peace

Photo of the Day: Anniversary Couple

As usual, I am guessing, the couple is celebrating an anniversary. I love the simplicity of the celebration. A card table and a cake, what else do you need? In my mind, they are surrounded by loved ones while celebrating this milestone anniversary. Maybe a 50th or 60th anniversary, but I cannot view the cake clearly.

I do have a couple of facts from the photo.

The photo was taken in July 1954.

The photo processing took place at:

Photo of the Day: The Lady with the White Boots

I am assuming, the lady in the photo is posing to show off her new white boots. I honestly do not know if this theory is true.

The photo was printed with some basic lab information on the back.

Brown Photo Services

Minneapolis, Minn.

June 12, 1941

I wonder if the photo was taken earlier in the year. The lady appears to be wearing a heavier coat which would be necessary for the Minnesota winters. In my opinion, I believe the photo was actually snapped in the spring of 1941. Then developed at a later date that is printed on the back of the photo.

What do you see when you look at the photo?

Photo of the Day: Two Ladies in a Garden

I do have a little information on this photo. The back of the photo is stamped with the following:

Brown Photo Service

Minneapolis, Minn.

June 22, 1942

The two women are posing with flowers. I think the flowers are peonies. I wish I knew their names.

I guess, the women could be sisters. Or perhaps, mother and daughter. What do you think?

What do you see when ou look at the photo?
